I hope everyone had a great weekend! As you probably know by now, our weeks and especially our weekends revolve around football. On Saturday, the team played the Minnesota Vikings. Things didn’t turn out too well but there were a few positives…
I have gotten great feedback on my weekly “updates” so I will keep these going throughout the season. For all of you that are visiting The New Mrs. Allen for the first time, welcome and I hope you enjoy my recipes, football stories, and occasional ramblings (with pictures of course).
So, I always get asked if my life is anything like basketball wives– the answer is no. It’s funny because I was a little apprehensive the first time I met some of the other ladies; I didn’t know what to expect. Thankfully, they are all awesome. We do get together for the occasional meal, but rarely have time to gossip or get in arguments. It might not be like that everywhere, but Kansas City is pretty tame. That being said, we do like to get together for a nice tailgate!
This week was Mexican themed complete with fajita meat, ground beef, pinto beans (made by yours truly), and some pretty strong margaritas. We endured the high temps in exchange for a nice tent, great spread, and frozen drinks.
Leaving Arrowhead after a loss is never fun but we finally made it home after the game around 11:30. Every weekend, Jeff is a little banged up so the day after games we look to take it easy. I am currently training for a half marathon so I hopped up real early to meet the local running club for a 9 miler. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would eagerly jump up to do a long run like this. I just signed up for the Kansas City Half Marathon this morning. I have 52 days before the big race!!
Sunday afternoon, we met one of my oldest friends from club soccer for brunch. We have known each other for almost 13 years and I was so excited when she got a job in the Kansas City area! This weekend, we met at Beer Kitchen, a quirky litter restaurant in the heart of Westport. We started with some drunken doughnuts served with a sickly sweet dipping sauce and some good ol’ biscuits and gravy. The pork sausage gravy is in abundance and is ladled over homemade biscuits—easily my favorite part of the meal. Carson and I tried the pan-fried chicken and waffles and Mr. Allen opted for the Brunch Enchiladas. Our chicken was served with a side of gravy and warm syrup and was DELICIOUS. Jeff liked his meal but said it was missing something. It needed some hot sauce! All in all, I would definitely suggest the Beer Kitchen to those looking for a fun brunch.
This week the team is on the road and I am excited to do a little recipe testing/ development.
In other news, I have created a Flickr Account. This is where I will be posting all of the my pictures from game day and other random events. To find my photos, search for “The New Mrs. Allen.” You can also use the following link >> https://www.flickr.com/photos/126844167@N03/ << One benefit is that you can download the photos at full resolution, perfect for getting them printed.
